Human Rights Act 1998

The Human Rights act is an act of parliament of the United kingdom which received Royal assent on 9 November 1998. This basically came into force on the 2nd October 200. The main aim of this was basically incorporate the law of rights into the United Kingdom. These laws where the European Convention on Human rights. These laws meant that:

  • All types of public bodies such as courts, governments, police or even public schools carrying out public functions have to comply with the convention of rights.
  • This then means that individuals can take human rights cases in domestic courts. Individuals have to no longer argue their case in the European Court of Human rights.

Articles that make up the human rights act

  • Right to life
  • Freedom from torture and inhuman treatment
  • Right to liberty and security
  • Freedom from slavery
  • Freedom of expression
  • Right to marry
  • Right to education
  • Right to participate in free elections

Who can use human rights

The human rights act may be used by any person or resident that is situated in the United kingdom whether or not they are a British citizen or of a foreign nature. It also does not matter if they are a child or an adult, both have the same types of human rights. It also does not matter if that particular person is a prisoner or a member of the public. Companies or organisations are also involved in the Human rights act.

What does the Human rights act usually do

The human rights that are contained within this law are based on the articles of the European Convention on Human Rights. The act basically gives further effect to rights and also freedoms guaranteed under the European Convention. What this mean is that judges must read and give effect to the legislation under human rights in a way that is compatible with the convention right. It is unlawful for a public authority to act in a way which is incompatible with a convention right.

Amnesty International

Amnesty international is a global movement of more that 7 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. Amnesty international is funded by normal members of the public, they are independent of any political ideology, economic interest or religion. They believe that no government is beyond scrutiny and that no situation is beyond hope.

What does Amnesty do

Amnesty international investigate and also expose the facts whenever and wherever abuse happens. Amnesty lobby governments and other powerful groups such as companies. Making sure they keep their promises and respect international law. By telling powerful stories of the people they work with and mobilise millions of supporters around the world and they also campaign for change and to stand in defence of activists on the frontline.

20th century propaganda posters

In this section I will be giving examples of 20th century propaganda poster and will be explain what is happening in each section.

This is a poster that is clearly trying to drive people again the use of a certain type of drug. The language and images that is used in this poster are extremely impactful and is trying to suggest that if you smoke this type of drug then you will go to hell and the racket that supply it have their arms around your children and are trying to reel them in. With the language and words that this poster it using it is obvious that the poster itself is trying to scare parents and young people around from using the drug.

Properganda Poster 1

This image is Cleary a call to war as it uses a strong fist as a background image and places the typography on the first itself. The poster also try’s to strike confidence into the audience with the language that they are using such as “lend your strong right arm”. The poster also try’s to place proud into people to try

Properganda Poster 2

This poster also gives quite a strong message to an audience as this is another war poster where their rivals are displayed as the king Kong like figure and are trying to suggest that their rivals are as they said “brutes”. This makes their opponents seems like the worst in the world and make their people support them more within the war that are currently in.

Properganda Poster 3

In terms of the act that I will pick to design in this assignment, I feel that the act of discrimination would be sufficient enough and have a decent amount of information to write about. I also feel that in this case my target audience would be the likes of an adult and not really anything in terms of a young person
